Patriots sign local reciever

The New England Patriots are adding another weapon for Mac Jones — and it isn't the one that people might have thought.

According to a source, the Patriots signed receiver Ed Lee, and they didn't look far for their newest addition. Lee joins the Patriots after playing for the University of Rhode Island where he caught 56 passes for 908 yards and five touchdowns in his final season.

A Patriots fan since he was eight, Lee fills one of New England's two open roster spots. The Patriots were already familiar with the receiver after he was invited to their rookie minicamp along with their local pro day.

In his last season at URI, Lee earned Second Team All-CAA Football honors along with being named Third Team as a punt returner. His ability to help out on offense along with special teams makes him all the more valuable to the Patriots.

With the addition of Lee, the Patriots now have eight receivers on the roster, with him joining Juju Smith-Schuster, Kendrick Bourne, DeVante Parker, Tyquan Thornton, Tre Nixon, Kayshon Boutte and Demario Douglas.

And, there are still rumors circulating about the Patriots adding one more, with DeAndre Hopkins name being associated with New England.

The 5-foot-9, 185 pound receiver is no stranger to the NFL, with his father being drafted by the Detroit Lions in 1981, and played as a receiver until 1984.

The Patriots are scheduled to hold their second open OTAs session on Tuesday, so it will be interesting to see if Lee makes an appearance.
