Former Tennessee Vols wide receiver Jalin Hyatt handled the New York media this week like a seasoned veteran.

Hyatt, who was selected by the New York Giants in the third round of the 2023 NFL Draft, met with reporters this past weekend after his first rookie minicamp.

The South Carolina native was asked multiple times about his route tree and the transition to the NFL after playing in Tennessee's up-tempo spread offense the last two seasons.

Hyatt fielded four questions — including three in a row at one point — about Tennessee's offense and his route tree during his six-minute media session with reporters.

The former Vol handled the questions like a pro. He didn't get contentious, he didn't say there would be a major adjustment, and he didn't bash Tennessee's offense.

Instead, Hyatt gave the reporters….nothing. He essentially killed the story by not giving the New York media any juicy quotes to run with.

"I'm a football player," said Hyatt. "Yeah, I came from Tennessee's offense, which I had fun in and learned a lot of new things in that offense. Coming into this offense (with the Giants), [I'm] learning more new things. But at the end of the day, I'm a football player. I can play in any offense and I'm just glad I'm here."

Hyatt was also asked about the viral video going around of Dallas Cowboys wide receivers coach Robert Prince questioning Hyatt's route-running abilities.

Unsurprisingly, Hyatt handled the question with ease.

“No, it didn’t bother me at all,” said Hyatt. “Coaches and a lot of people have their own opinions on things, and I respect the Cowboys receiver coach, met with him when I went up to one of my 30 visits when I went up there."

“I have a lot of respect for him, and like I said, that’s in the past now. Draft process is in the past," added Hyatt.

The New York media is often viewed as the toughest media market in professional sports. Hyatt, who dealt with a large media contingent at Tennessee, could've easily been frustrated by getting asked the same question multiple times. And that could've led to a response that turned this into a bigger story than it really is. Hyatt, however, kept his composure and showed remarkable maturity for a young rookie. He's going to handle himself just fine in New York.
