The full NFL schedule is set to be released, but it's already clear that the Indianapolis Colts will have an underrated schedule when the season officially kicks off in the fall.
That's because Indianapolis will have more home games than away games for the 2023 NFL season. The Colts are set to play nine games inside Lucas Oil Stadium and only seven on the road. And the schedule also includes one neutral site contest overseas.
Which means that the Colts have a bit of an advantage on the schedule. Obviously, teams want to play in their own city more often that not. The more times playing in the same building in front of passionate fans, the better. Especially during a grueling season.
That sets up well for Shane Steichen during his first season at the helm. While where the game is being played does not outright determine wins and losses, it certainly cannot hurt having more games played at home.
Steichen will be tasked with getting his team to buy into his schemes and coaching. That typically goes over better when the team is winning. Not to mention, rookie quarterback Anthony Richardson is probably better off playing inside the dome in Indianapolis more often than on the road in hostile environments.
Again, the Colts are only playing one more game at home than they are on the road. Plus, the game overseas is not exactly a short trip away, either. Still, it's important to find little advantages that could help the Colts when the schedule drops.
Any little advantage is a good sign for the Indianapolis Colts. Now, it is up to the team to take advantage of the opportunity of playing the majority of their 2023 games in their own building.
