The Dallas Cowboys will remember the 2020 NFL Draft fondly due to taking wide receiver CeeDee Lamb and cornerback Trevon Diggs in the first two rounds who have both turned into All-Pro players.

At the moment, Lamb and Diggs are eligible for contract extensions, and there's little doubt both will get done. In the case of Lamb, the Cowboys picked up his fifth-year option so he's on the books through 2024. As far as Diggs goes, he's entering the final year of his rookie deal.

It creates an interesting conversation about which contract the Cowboys should get taken care of first. Well, ESPN's Dan Graziano says Dallas should lean toward Lamb.

"From what I understand I think they are really focused on trying to get CeeDee Lamb under contract as soon as they can," Graziano said. "Now, they have some time, they picked up the fifth-year option on him for 2024 so they don't necessarily need to do it this offseason. But they view him as a No.1 wide receiver, that market continues to go upward and upward and I think they'd like to get him signed as quickly as possible."

Lamb will make $4.45 million in 2023 and $17.99 million in 2024 on his fifth-year option. So, if the Cowboys do wait until 2025 to get Lamb's deal done, that's two more years for the praise to get up.

Dallas hasn't been proactive in these situations before and it ended up costing them.

Back in 2018, the Cowboys placed the franchise tag on edge rusher DeMarcus Lawrence after his breakout season of 14.5 sacks. They did so again in 2019, but ultimately came to a long-term agreement a month later which made him the highest-paid defensive end at the time.

That very same year, Prescott started the season lighting up defenses, and team owner Jerry Jones said that an extension for Jim was imminent. However, that didn't happen until 2021 after he was placed on multiple tags as well and the Cowboys gave him $40 million annually when it could have been around $30 million if they had acted on it quickly.

Although they have a window of time to make it happen, Lamb is one of the best receivers in the NFL, and the Cowboys can save themselves quite a bit of cash by getting his deal done now.
