The Seattle Seahawks 2022 draft class was something special, and one player found himself on an elite list for the 2023 season.
The Seahawks had the best draft class last year, at least with how it looks right now. Sure, in a few years, we could be saying something different and that another team's draft class was better. But, as of right now, there were no teams who draft class contributed as much as the Seahawks did.
In fact, per Pro Football Focus charted the teams with the most total snaps by rookies and the Seahawks were first in a landslide with over 5,000 total snaps. The rookie class was a huge reason this team was able to make the postseason when no one thought they would after trading away Russell Wilson and making Geno Smith the starter.
Now those guys will only get better, hopefully, after a full season under their belt. Oh, and some playoff experience to go with it. One guy we know is on an upward trend is Tariq Woolen, who recently was added to an elite list by one NFL analyst.
CB TARIQ WOOLEN, SEATTLE SEAHAWKS
Woolen’s lone season thus far was one to remember. He earned an impressive 74.2 coverage grade with six interceptions and 12 forced incompletions. He also had frequent difficult assignments while playing more than 300 coverage snaps in press coverage.
-Trevor Sikkema, PFF
Woolen is already one of the best cornerbacks in the league, top 10 in my opinion, and he is only going onto his second year. Sikkema has him at No. 24 out of 25, which is fair I think. The cornerbacks ahead of him are Sauce Gardner at No. 5, Patrick Surtain at No. 7, and A.J. Terrell at No. 22. But, Woolen was ranked ahead of Trevon Diggs who was ranked dead last, and I think that is spot on.
Woolen is a guy that will be a vital part of what could be an elite secondary in the future with the new addition of rookie cornerback Devon Witherspoon. Not only could those two be an elite cornerback duo, but this unit could possibly be Legion of Boom 2.0 for all we know.
Woolen is well on his way to making an even better list than this, where maybe he can be on an All-Pro list or top five best cornerbacks. Either way, he still deserved to be on this list, and will easily move up on the list next season.
