The Dallas Cowboys have built a roster that contains several players who are at the top of their positions.

One of them is cornerback Trevon Diggs who was taken in the second round in 2020. All Diggs has done in his first three years is rack 17 interceptions which ranked first over that span and 49 pass breakups which are second.

Despite these amazing numbers, Diggs has been the subject of surprising ridicule and disrespect throughout his career, and it happened again this week. Pro Football Focus ranked the top 25 players under 25 in the NFL, and Diggs came in at 25.

Diggs remains one of the most polarizing players on these types of lists, but he deserves to make the tail end of it. His 11 interceptions in 2021 led the league by a large margin, but, of course, it’s well documented that he allowed more than 1,000 yards in coverage. His coverage grade that season finished at 65.0. This past year, though, he allowed fewer yards against and his coverage grade moved slightly to 67.0. He’s a feast-or-famine type of player, but his talent and ball skills allow him to make major plays.

There are multiple things wrong with this assessment.

First off, no film from the 2021 season remotely suggests that Diggs gave up over 1,000 yards. Secondly, saying that Diggs deserves to be on the tail end is just ridiculous.

This is in no way to disrespect players like Chris Olave of the New Orleans Saints, Garrett Wilson of the New York Jets, or Drake London of the Atlanta Falcons. All excellent young wide receivers, but they've only played one year in the NFL and shouldn’t be ranked ahead of Diggs. Even guys like quarterback Trevor Lawrence and tight end Kyle Pitts have shown great flashes over their first two seasons but neither has played at a consistent Pro Bowl/All-Pro level like Diggs has to be higher than him on the list.

What many people fail to realize even to this day is that Diggs was once a wide receiver and didn't switch to cornerback full-time until his sophomore campaign at Alabama in 2017. So, that means the historic 11 interceptions he gathered in his second year in the league came in just his fifth year of playing the position which is extraordinary.

Diggs saw his interception numbers come back to reality with three in 2022. However, top-notch receivers like Ja'Marr Chase of the Cincinnati Bengals and Justin Jefferson of the Minnesota Vikings nearly called the police on Diggs because he had the held hostage, just check the film.

He keeps being an undervalued player bet yet he keeps balling, and 2023 should be no different for Diggs.
