After years of disappointment and subpar play, the Detroit Lions find themselves in a rare spot in 2023, with four primetime games scheduled for the upcoming season.
The Lions ended the 2022 season with an 8-9 record, but finished red hot, winning eight of their last ten games, including a remarkable victory at Lambeau Field, that kept Aaron Rodgers and the Packers out of the playoffs. This late-season surge not only showcased the Lions' young talent and ability, but also hinted at their potential to shine under pressure.
While the last decade hasn't been kind to Detroit football, there are compelling reasons to believe that the 2023 Lions will shine when the lights are brightest.
Talent on the Rise:
The Lions have been steadily building a young and talented roster through the NFL Draft, adding guys like DE Aidan Hutchinson, WR Jameson Williams, WR Amon-Ra St. Brown, and RB Jahmyr Gibbs, in the last few years. Those promising draft picks, plus some key offseason acquisitions, have injected fresh blood into the team. Quarterback Jared Goff brings experience and a strong arm, while a revamped receiving corps and a dynamic backfield will add excitement and versatility.
Motivated Coaching Staff:
The Lions have shown new signs of life since the arrival of head coach Dan Campbell, something that you didn't see out of Lions teams for many years. Known for his passion and player-first approach, Campbell has instilled a culture of toughness, resilience, and unity within the team.
These aren't your Matt Stafford, Calvin Johnson, three-win Lions.
This is a new beast that is primed to make some noise in the NFC.

Prime Time Mentality:
The Lions have been lurking in the shadows for the last couple of seasons, slowly creeping up in the NFC. The underdog mentality is real for them, and by the end of last season, they rose up and bit some really good teams.
The prime time games offer the Lions an opportunity to show the NFL that they're not just a gimmicky Hard Knocks team, with a loud coach. They're a legit contender, ready to preform when it counts. Primetime games bring out the stars, and the 2023 Lions better be ready to answer the bell. With their new attitude, Detroit is determined to take a step up this season, and legitimately compete in the NFC, to prove to the NFL that their incredible finish to 2022 wasn't just a fluke, it was the arrival of the new Detroit Lions.
Most NFL teams don't get the chance to get the stink off of them like the Lions do in 2023. What they do with that opportunity is up to them.
