The New Orleans Saints drafted wide receiver Chris Olave in 2022 to pair with Michael Thomas. However, another move they made at the position ended up being clutch.

Rashid Shaheed went undrafted out of Weber State before the Saints signed him. At 6'0" with 4.3-4.4 speed, Shaheed certainly had some promise, but it was about getting the right opportunity.

Shaheed took full advantage of playing in the final 12 games with 6 starts. He ended up second among receivers on the Saints in yards (fourth on the team) and led the squad with 17.4 yards per reception.

Pro Football Focus deemed Shaheed the most underrated player on the Saints last week. Now, they're saying that he could have a breakout year in 2023.

Injuries at the receiver position allowed Shaheed to get on the field for the Saints — and he did not disappoint. The undrafted free agent started to play a bigger role from Week 11, and over the last eight weeks of the season, he averaged 2.40 yards per route run to rank eighth out of 105 qualifying receivers.

Shaheed logged 28 snaps in Week 11 of 2022 and didn't have less than 23 for the rest of the season. That's not when he started making an impact, though, that took place as soon as he hit the field.

The Saints battled the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 6 last season, Shaheed's first game. He would take a handoff 44 yards for a score on his first offensive touch. A week later, Shaheed's first catch in a game went for a 53-yard touchdown versus Arizona Cardinals.

This time last year nobody knew who Shaheed was. Now, he's a viable weapon in the passing game for the Saints and has completely changed the perception of who he is as a player.
