The Denver Broncos have a great rookie class coming in to help turn around the franchise, but one NFL analyst picked the wrong one of "rookie to watch."
The Broncos didn't have a lot of picks to work with when the draft kicked off in fact they only had five. But, they did what they could. They were able to bring in some guys that can help them a lot in the future and possibly even help them this year.
Now, sure, should they have traded up to take Marvin Mims when they swore to everyone that they weren't going to trade any of their receivers? No, They had other needs at the time and that just wasn't one. They could have easily gone for an offensive guard instead to back up Quinn Meinerz.
But, they did get the rest of their picks right. They got a linebacker who is versatile, a cornerback who is athletic, and a center just in case the Lloyd Cushenberry thing goes sideways. Oh, and before Kareem Jackson signed back, they went ahead and drafted his potential replacement too.
It was a good draft, and I think the class will be fun to watch. But, one national analyst picked the wrong rookie when doing his "rookies to watch" list.
Rookie to watch: CB Riley Moss
Patrick Surtain II is one of the top young cornerbacks in football, but outside of him are a lot of unproven commodities. After being selected in the third round, Iowa ball hawk Riley Moss will compete for snaps opposite Surtain and could make some noise on this defense. –Dalton Wasserman and Jim Wyman, PFF
Riley Moss will be amazing to watch. In fact, I think he can be a guy that will start eventually and be a good counterpart to Patrick Surtain. But let's be honest here, the Broncos drafted a guy that already amazed people when the rookie minicamp popped off, and it wasn't Moss.
Drew Sanders is an athletic freak, and he is one of the most versatile guys on the entire defense. He can rush the passer, as he had over 10 sacks in college last year. He can play on the ball as the inside linebacker, which is what he will do the most. Oh, and he can cover tight ends and bigger receivers.
Sanders has a knack for staying around the ball and cleaning up missed tackles. Now, he has his own tackling problems, but that's an easy fix. Sanders will be the guy fans will love, and to me, he has a chance to start right away over Josey Jewell. He won't, but he has the best chance of any rookie.
