Brock Purdy quickly -and easily- captured the minds and hearts of the San Francisco 49ers and its fans in 2022, so it's completely reasonable that both groups are awaiting his return with bated breath.

Many suspected the rookie sensation would be ready to begin his throwing progression program at the start of June. Sure enough, 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan confirmed that suspicion on Tuesday.

"He's doing good, still staying the same… on schedule," Shanahan told reporters. "I think he's allowed to throw some time next week."

The 49ers website initially reported Purdy would be ready to start his throwing progression program three months after his successful March 10 surgery. That timeline placed the start of the program at June 10, so it's encouraging to hear that Purdy is actually ahead of schedule.

Either way, the 49ers are one step closer to solidifying the QB room and making sure that last year's disaster doesn't happen again. Fortunately, the NFL also stepped in to make sure it doesn't happen.

But, no matter what, the 49ers should be in much better shape when it comes to their quarterback depth in 2023.

"I don't wanna compare it to other years, but we have two guys who are talented enough to be taken in the top-5 of the draft and we have another guy who played like it last year," said Shanahan. "So, I like the three guys we have and I've always been a fan of Brandon Allen… I feel real fortunate with our four."
