A former Chicago Bears star appeared to throw some shade at his former team this week.
Earlier this offseason, the Detroit Lions signed former Bears running back David Montgomery, who turns 26 later this summer, to a three-year deal.
Montgomery spent the first four years of his career with Chicago after the Bears selected him in the third round of the 2019 NFL Draft.
Chicago opted against re-signing Montgomery this offseason, instead choosing to roll with D'Onta Foreman as their likely starting running back.
Montgomery, meanwhile, replaces Jamaal Williams in Detroit. The Lions chose to sign Montgomery over re-signing Williams in an effort to get younger at the running back position.
On Tuesday, Montgomery appeared on a live gaming stream on the Lions' YouTube channel and he made some comments that Chicago fans probably won't love.
The former Bears running back said that losing games in Chicago "sucked the fun" out of playing football. Montgomery also said that he feels refreshed to be with a team where he's "appreciated".
You can't blame Montgomery for suggesting that losing games sucked the fun out of playing football — after all, it's all about winning in the NFL.
But it's a bit ironic that he's making these comments after joining a Lions team that hasn't gone to the playoffs since the 2016 season. Montgomery at least played in a playoff game with the Bears during his time in Chicago (a loss to the New Orleans Saints in the Wild Card round of the 2020 playoffs).
Montgomery's return to Chicago in December might draw a few boos from Bears fans after these comments. This rivalry didn't necessarily need any extra spice, but it certainly received some this week.
