The Indianapolis Colts had a successful 2023 NFL Draft, at least on paper. Indianapolis added its quarterback of the future, targeted roster needs, and added athletes to the team.

One area in which the Colts clearly made a big priority was the defensive backfield. The Colts traded away Stephon Gilmore to the Dallas Cowboys earlier in the offseason. Therefore, Indianapolis used the draft to add potential replacements.

Indianapolis selected a handful of defensive backs in April. The two biggest names of the group include second-round selection Julius Brents and fifth-round pick Darius Rush. While Brents is sidelined with injury, Rush is turning heads.

Rush was a productive corner in the SEC while at South Carolina. Additionally, he ran a 4.37 40-yard dash at the NFL Scouting Combine in March. He is a lengthy defender with athletic traits that pop.

However, he fell all the way to the fifth-round. That's when the Colts took advantage and added Rush to its draft class. It hasn't taken him long to make plays. In fact, Rush had a big highlight in OTAs on Thursday.

The rookie defensive back recently jumped a pass thrown by Sam Ehlinger and took it all the way back in practice. Rush grabbed two interceptions and recorded seven passes defended during his final season on the collegiate level.

If OTAs are any indication of what it is to come, then the Colts may have struck gold on the final day of the draft. There's no doubt that the door is open for the rookie DBs to play early, and Rush is already taking advantage of the opportunities.
