The Chicago Bears’ blockbuster trade ahead of the 2023 NFL Draft might go down as one of the best trades in franchise history. But before it can be graded as a win, the Bears’ primary acquisition in the deal, WR D.J. Moore, must prove capable of leading Chicago’s passing attack.

Moore is a much better players than his recent numbers might suggest. His statistics haven’t been poor, but they have certainly been watered down due to shoddy quarterback play with the Carolina Panthers.

Moore has posted three 1,100-yard seasons in his five-year career, but he has never received the attention his play warrants due to playing in Carolina. Now that he has reemerged in Chicago, the national media is finally paying him the proper respect.

Pro Football Focus recently released a list of the NFL’s top 32 wide receivers. Not only was Moore on the list, but he rounded out the top half checking in at No. 16.

From PFF: "The Chicago Bears securing Moore's services as part of their trade out of the No. 1 overall pick in the draft was a real coup. He isn’t coming off a great year of production, but prior to last season Moore had three straight years of 1,100-plus receiving yards and is still averaging 1.94 yards per route run for his career despite some ugly quarterback situations. Moore can be the elite target Justin Fields has not yet had in the NFL."

Moore was in front of some incredible receivers such as Jaylen Waddle, Devonta Smith, Amari Cooper, Tyler Lockett and Keenan Allen. Although his play absolutely warrants a high ranking, it’s a pleasant surprise to see a national media outlet pivoting on their stance of Moore.

Rankings and lists are fun to analyze over the course of the offseason, but on-field production trumps all. Now in Luke Getsy’s offensive scheme and with Justin Fields rocket arm alongside him, Moore has everything he needs in order to return to Pro Bowl caliber form in 2023.
