There is already a ton of excitement brewing for Anthony Richardson and the Indianapolis Colts. Richardson plays a fun style of football, and he should fit well in head coach Shane Steichen's scheme.
It has not taken long for Richardson to make a big impression with the Colts. The rookie quarterback split first-team reps during OTAs practice this week, and he has made it known that he is determined to keep improving his craft.
As he works to do just that, Richardson has been impressing Steichen already. The first-year head coach worked with Jalen Hurts while with the Philadelphia Eagles the past two seasons. Yet, Steichen is seeing "next-level stuff" from Richardson.
Richardson has wasted no time in putting his arm talent on full display. His big arm and ability to push the ball down the field was evident at Flordia and should translate to Indianapolis.
Steichen explained that he has been very pleased with where his rookie quarterback is already at. That not includes physically, where Richardson has no issue shining, but also mentally, even so early into his NFL career.
"He's done a really nice job," Steichen told the media this week. "I've been really pleased with where he's at mentally. He made some big plays today on the football field, made some great throws, great decisions — some really next-level stuff that I've seen over the last couple of days. So really pleased with where he's at."
The Colts are not messing around in their development of Richardson to this point in the offseason. Rather than wasting practices by forcing him to sit behind a veteran quarterback, Richardson is getting valuable reps.
It's still so early in the offseason and games won't be played for a few more months. With that said, Anthony Richardson is already showcasing the abilities that made him a top-five draft selection.
