Broncos: Sean Payton's recent comments should make Kareem Jackson feel great

The Denver Broncos started their 2022 season with a ton of expectations and honestly, only the defense really lived up to them. Every other part of the team was far past the point of no return.
This year the defense can be near the same level. I won't say they can be better because with a new system and defensive coordinator, and some new pieces here and there, we just don't know. I do think they can be above average.
A huge reason why, as the national media continues to sleep on it, is the return of safety Kareem Jackson, who is filling one of the bigger needs on that side of the ball. Had Jackson not come back, Caden Sterns, P.J. Locke, or rookie safety JL Skinner would have been the three competing for the starting spot.
While they are all good at their own thing, respectfully, none of those guys are quite ready to be a start yet. They can be and will be just not yet. The safety duo of Justin Simmons and Jackson last year seemed to work quite well.
When asked about bringing the veteran safety back, new head coach Sean Payton was pretty excited.
"He’s experienced and he’s got really good instincts," Payton told the media last Thursday. "At his age, it’s impressive he’s been healthy. Then you look at pitch count, what’s the vision, and all of those things. That was exciting for us and for him. He’ll be here next week.
This has to make Jackson feel good going into the 2023 season. Usually when a team gets a whole new coaching staff and a veteran player is a free agent in that bridge offseason, sometimes that new coaching staff won't bring the player back. It happens all the time.
For Jackson, this shows that even though it's an entirely new staff, they like what he did last year on a bad team, and think he has at least one more great year in him.
This offseason Jackson went on Good Morning Football and let the world know that he is contemplating retirement after a few more seasons. If this season goes well, or even bad for that matter, it could be the last time we see Jackson in orange and blue after a great soon-to-be five-year stint with the franchise.
