Despite his explosive 4.42 speed and impressive 20 reps on the bench press at the NFL Combine, Maryland Terrapins wide receiver Jacob Copeland was not one of the 32 receivers drafted in the 2023 NFL Draft.

Copeland signed an undrafted free agent contract with the Tennessee Titans that included $50,000 in total guarantees. Now his goal is to make the Titans' 53-man roster and make the rest of the league regret passing on him.

Copeland is keeping the receipts on every player drafted before him and taking everything personally.

"There were 32 WRs drafted in the 2023 NFL Draft. I’ll never forget that. I wrote down the name of each receiver," Copeland told Justin Melo of Broadway Sports Media in an exclusive interview. According to Melo, Copeland "aims to embarrass 31 other franchises for passing on him" in the 2023 NFL Draft (full interview here).

In five collegiate seasons with the Florida Gators (2018-2021) and Maryland Terrapins (2022), Copeland recorded 112 catches for 1,742 receiving yards and 11 touchdowns. In 2022, he also got work as a kick returner for Maryland.

The $50,000 guaranteed that Copeland received in his contract with the Titans was the second-most among Tennessee's undrafted rookie class. Only Minnesota OLB Thomas Rush, who signed for $175,000 in total guarantees, got more.

That type of investment shows a serious commitment to Copeland this season and belief from Tennessee's coaching staff in his ability to earn a spot on the 53-man roster. As we all know, that will start with being impactful on special teams.

If there was ever an ideal opportunity for an undrafted wide receiver, it's the 2023 Titans. With Tennessee investing few resources in the position, training camp is sure to be a healthy competition and the breakout performers could both make the roster and even earn snaps on offense.

Copeland will be competing with the likes of Racey McMath, Mason Kinsey, Colton Dowell, Reggie Roberson Jr., Tre'Shaun Harrison, and Kearis Jackson for a roster spot.
