There is a lot to like about what the draft class Chicago Bears GM Ryan Poles was able to put together over the weekend. The Bears were able to walk away with a couple handfuls of ridiculously talented prospects, but one particular player has caught the eye of a highly respected NFL analyst.
Louis Riddick played a major role in ESPN’s draft coverage this past weekend. While he’s tremendous in his current line of work, Riddick’s opinion hold plenty of weight after spending 13 seasons in the NFL serving as a scout and in an executive role.
Top sum it up, Riddick knows a great player when he sees one. Enter Bears second-round pick CB Tyrique Stevenson out of Miami. Chicago traded up with the Jacksonville Jaguars in order to nab Stevenson with the 56th overall pick in the draft.
Stevenson played at Georgia before transferring to Miami where he quickly established a reputation of a hard-hitting cornerback with elite ball skills. He’s the type of player that is likely to have an instant impact in the secondary when Week 1 rolls around.
Riddick made an appearance on Chicago’s ESPN 1000 Monday where he couldn’t say enough positive things about the Bears draft gem.
“I really like Tyrique Stevenson,” Riddick said. This is a Matt Eberflus type of guys. This guy will absolutely knock your teeth out. He’s a thumper as a corner. He does not back down. Super aggressive, plays strong, good tackler, and strong at the catch point.”
Stevenson turns the heat up on a young batch of Bears cornerbacks. The third-team All-ACC cornerback will be competing for a starting job in training camp, and if what Riddick says is true, it will be a challenge for Kyler Gordon, Kindle Vildor and Jaylon Johnson to stave off the highly-touted rookie.
