The New Orleans Saints are fresh off of a need-addressing 2023 NFL Draft class. They revamped the defensive line, grabbed depth elsewhere, and took a quarterback. New Orleans wasn't afraid to be aggressive to go get their guys – no surprise there.
The Saints believe that they are the favorites to win the NFC South. The organization has faith in this team to compete in the NFC as a whole, too. If they want to accomplish their goals, adding some more veteran talent in free agency is necessary for the Saints.
Who are some targets for the Saints during this wave of free agency?
Zach Cunningham, Linebacker
Cunningham is a veteran linebacker with good movement skills. The Saints need more depth at LB after losing Kaden Elliss in free agency. Cunningham missed much of last season with an injury, but the season prior was one of the best of his career.
He is a player that can play a solid role as long as he isn't an every-down player. For New Orleans, Demario Davis, Pete Werner, and Andrew Dowell would all be ahead of him most likely. Smart landing spot for the experienced LB.
Casey Hayward, Cornerback
Hayward is another veteran that shouldn't cost too much in free agency. The Atlanta Falcons recently let Hayward go as they allow a youth influx to enter their secondary.
For the Saints, they have plenty of young talent at CB, and Hayward could be a nice veteran presence for the room. He'd compete for the CB4 role behind Marshon Lattimore, Alontae Taylor, and Paulson Adebo.
Foster Moreau, Tight End
This is the one that fans are looking for when it comes to an addition for New Orleans. The Saints were in discussions with Moreau in the first wave of free agency, but a medial situation put his football decisions on pause. If his cancer treatment progresses, it is possible that he will play in the NFL this season. That will be a situation for the Saints to communicate with Moreau.
He would be an extremely useful addition for the offense in New Orleans. Moreau already has a connection with Derek Carr after their days with the Raiders. He is a former LSU Tiger, too.
