One position that the New Orleans Saints could target during the next wave of free agency is linebacker. A potential candidate to add may become available at the surprise of many.

Former first-rounder Patrick Queen has had contract disagreements with the Baltimore Ravens. Therefore, there's a possibility that the Ravens move on from him during this off-season. Queen was listed as a surprise cut candidate, according to Ari Meirov.

Baltimore traded for and extended linebacker Roquan Smith last season, so it is unlikely that they hand out another big-money deal to their second LB. For the Saints, adding LB depth is still a necessity before next season begins.

Check out Meirov's explanation for Queen's situation below.

Before the draft, there was chatter building that Patrick Queen was growing frustrated with the Baltimore Ravens. The team then went on to draft Clemson LB Trenton Simpson in the third round (Queen reacted on Twitter) and declined Queen’s fifth-year option for 2024. That all comes after they extended LB Roquan Smith a few months ago on a five-year, $100 million contract, making it unlikely Queen sticks long-term. Baltimore was not willing to engage in trade talks involving Queen before the draft, but last week’s events make this a situation worth monitoring.

It is unknown how much it would cost to pick up Queen if he is cut. It's possible that the former LSU Tiger would need to take a short-term "prove it" deal to earn a longer term contract in the future. If that's the case, New Orleans would make plenty of sense for the linebacker.
