Spears had an incredible 2022 season, leading Tulane to a thrilling Cotton Bowl victory over USC, yet didn't receive much hype, heading into the 2023 NFL Draft. Spears has a tough medical history, with 2 prior ACL injuries and arthritis in his knees. Despite that, Spears is a joystick in the backfield, holding one of the most vicious jump cuts that I've ever seen. He's undersized for a 3-down back, yet that is the skillset he possesses, which is why I'm very intrigued to see how the Titans will use him. He will get a chance to be a 'change of pace' back behind Derrick Henry this season, but with his injury history, many wonder if that's all he will ever be.

Strengths:

– Receiving Ability: Spears stands out as an exceptional receiver due to his skills in route-running and natural ability to catch the ball with ease, away from his body.

– Feet & Burst: With his agile feet, he demonstrates patience, balance, and vision to avoid defenders and follow his blocks.

– Toughness: Spears is not afraid of physical play, often finishing runs aggressively and falling forward in a crowd. His low pad level and slight agility enable him to avoid big hits.

– Balance: Spears also has a powerful build and a naturally low center of gravity, allowing him to maintain balance while running through traffic and gaining yardage effectively.

Weaknesses:

– Size: Due to his undersized frame, he is not capable of consistently pushing through contact. His contact balance is not elite, and he can be stopped by direct contact up the middle.

– Breakaway Speed: Spears may overestimate his ability to break through lanes, which leads to him running into traffic. Furthermore, he doesn't possess breakaway speed in the deep third.

– Injury History: Spears has had knee issues in the past, including a couple of surgery's. Very hopeful that he stays healthy for the Titans.
