The New Orleans Saints just filled the biggest hole on their roster. They added veteran tight end Foster Moreau as their second TE on the depth chart, replacing Adam Trautman. Additionally, the move reunites Moreau with his former QB, Derek Carr, in New Orleans.
Moreau provides a more impactful game than Trautman did for the Saints. Trautman struggled with drops during his Saints career, especially over the past two seasons. It was not a surprise that they moved on from him during this year's NFL draft. Moreau has been sure-handed during his NFL career.
His stats won't jump off the stat sheet, but his balanced game is useful for New Orleans.
Juwan Johnson has an important receiving role, and Moreau's addition allows him to focus more on that. Johnson will still need to be a legitimate blocker, but his receiving upside is where his value lives.
For Moreau, he knows Carr as a QB and knows his tendencies. Not to mention, Carr loved to throw to him in the red-zone. He was consistent for the Raiders, and the Saints need that after an injury-plagued season on offense a season ago.
Moreau will be an emotional leader on and off the field for the Saints, too. Coaches and teammates have always spoken highly of him. The Saints made a great move in adding him as a TE in their room during this off-season.
