For the New Orleans Saints, their defense saw some inconsistencies last season. Injuries to key players throughout the year didn't help that. From a talent standpoint, there is no lack of it for New Orleans. Upgrades on the defensive line should bolster the weakest part of the team. One consistent strength in recent years has been their secondary.
Marshon Lattimore headlines their cornerbacks, and he was very impressive when healthy last season. Their depth is meaningful, though. Paulson Adebo and Bradley Roby are veteran depth pieces.
Alontae Taylor exploded onto the scene last season as a rookie. His ceiling looks like it will be extremely high, and he fits the Saints' mantra in the secondary. Taylor brings energy and competitiveness.
Those four top the position for New Orleans. They'll roster at least two other CBs most likely.
ESPN's Mike Clay gave the Saints their flowers for having an impressive cornerback group in the NFC. He ranks their cornerback group as the 4th-best in the conference.
Not to mention, the Saints unit is tops in the NFC South, according to Clay.
He is correct about that. Atlanta has a top CB in A.J. Terrell, but their depth is lacking. Tampa Bay and Carolina both have one solid CB in Carlton Davis and Jaycee Horn, but they aren't on the same level as Lattimore.
Overall, the Saints should have the best secondary in their division this season. Look for them to potentially add another veteran cornerback during free agency to compete as well. Regardless, they are an impressive group.
