When the Las Vegas Raiders traded for star wide receiver Davante Adams last offseason, there were some analysts who suggested the trade was going to fail.
The idea was that Adams was the benefactor of playing with Aaron Rodgers in Green Bay.
Adams quickly destroyed that narrative by catching 100 passes for 1,516 yards and 14 touchdowns. Rodgers and the Packers, meanwhile, struggled without Adams on the roster.
Adams was recently asked by The Ringer about the narrative that he only had success in Green Bay because of Rodgers.
The former Fresno State standout didn't hold back while answering the question.
“Now people can’t say that,” said Adams. “That’ll never be the narrative ever again…It proved that I am me. A quarterback doesn’t make me… I make me. And I can do it consistently at this level.”
“That’s why [last] season meant a lot,” added Adams. “Even if I went and played like dog shit next year, they can’t say it. Because now I’ve already proved it throughout the course of a season, played every game, and put together a résumé that says I do not need …You can erase all the numbers. You can just write in: He didn’t need Aaron Rodgers.”
Putting an end to that narrative was obviously a goal last season for Adams. But that's not the only goal the talented wide receiver has — he also badly wants to win a Super Bowl in Las Vegas.
"My goal is to win a Super Bowl with this team," said Adams to The Ringer. "And that’s why I didn’t come here to just be cute with Derek [Carr]. It is to really try and have a shot and change this organization."
It's clear that Adams is hungry, determined, and focused. Bringing a Super Bowl trophy to Vegas won't be easy — especially with the Kansas City Chiefs dominating the AFC in recent years — but Adams won't stop until he's done all he can to help the Raiders win a championship.
