Why did the New England Patriots not offer DeAndre Hopkins the money he was looking for?

This is the question that many Patriots fans are asking on Monday morning after it was announced Sunday that Hopkins was signing with the Tennessee Titans. The Patriots had the opportunity to add a star receiver and talented target to the offense, but let him slip away.

However, one former NFL general manager weighs in on why Belichick wasn't willing to go the extra mile.

"Bill Belichick has a very stoic approach to player evaluations," Mike Tannenbaum said on ESPN's Get Up. "They went out and they re-signed DeVante Parker a few weeks ago. They acquired JuJu Smith-Schuster. Maybe last year's second-round pick, Tyquan Thornton, had a really good spring."

"There are reasons he believes in the players he has and if he puts a value on a player like he probably did with DeAndre Hopkins, regardless of what we all may think… he is going to stick to his plan in a very dogmatic way," Tannenbaum added. "He believes in what they have and I think when DeVante Parker was extended, that was a good clue of his assessment of where they were in terms of their wide receivers."

The Patriots receiving core might seem young, but there is a ton of potential there.

New England signed Super Bowl champion Juju Smith-Schuster and agreed to a contract extension with DeVante Parker. They also have Tyquan Thornton who is entering his second year, having been regarded for his speed.

Tannenbaum further emphasized that he believes Belichick "hinted" at this outcome with Hopkins, saying that extending Parker was the first sign that Hopkins wasn't going to New England.

Yet there is plenty of time before the season begins and many free agents still on the market, so let's see if the Patriots have more moves in store.
