As the NFL season nears, the Pittsburgh Steelers are gearing up for the start of camp next week, signaling the unofficial start of football season.

One sign that we're close? The annual release of Madden rankings, which are sure to rile up fans and players alike.

But there's one member of the Steelers that can make the argument that he's the best at his position, something the Madden ratings adjusters seemingly disagree with:

93 Overall: Minkah Fitzpatrick

A 93 overall ranking is not the issue here. One could argue we could juice that number so it's closer to 95 or 96, but the problem is that there's a safety ranked above Minkah:

Derwin James is a great safety, and worthy of a ranking in the mid to high 90s. But when comparing resumes it's not really close. Both have the same number of Pro Bowls (3), but Mnkah has a three-to-one lead when it comes to All-Pro nods, almost three times as many interceptions, and nearly 100 tackles more than James, both of whom are 26 years old.

So while rankings and surveys are based on subjectivity, Minkah doesn't need my backing, just take the league's word for it, with Mnkah coming out on top of the safety rankings when the NFL was judging.

Madden is a game, so this is all in good fun, but it doesn't mean Minkah can't use the slighting as fuel to his internal fire.
