The New Orleans Saints made several roster moves on Tuesday which involved a huge chunk of their rookie class. One of the players, offensive lineman Nick Saldiveri, was placed on the PUP list.

This particular designation is for players who aren't able to physically perform because of football-related injuries. These players can attend meetings plus use the team's training and medical facilities but can't participate in practice.

Saldiveri suffered a calf injury that sidelined him during OTAs. Seeing as training camp for the Saints will commence next week, Saldiveri's availability to start the regular season is in jeopardy.

If Saldiveri is still battling this injury when the season starts then he'll go in the reserve/PUP list. Players who fit under this umbrella have to sit out the first four weeks of the regular season.

The Saints have one of the better guards in the NFL in Andrus Peat. However, despite his three Pro Bowl nods, Peat has never been able to play a full season as upper and lower body injuries have plagued him.

Saldiveri being brought in was a way to help the Saints with their depth at guard. Worst case scenario, if Saldiveri isn't ready to start the season, the health of Peat becomes even more paramount with questionable reinforcements to choose from otherwise.

The good thing is that Saldiveri can be taken off the PUP list at any time before the season starts, but even if he is, the time it will take for him to be game ready would still be a question mark because once an injury isn't an issue a player has to get in game shape and that can only happen by taking reps.

There are about two months left before the 2023 season starts so Saldiveri could be good to go soon, but the depth at guard for the Saints is certainly something to monitor regardless.
