Detroit Lions training camp officially started Wednesday once the final round of rookies showed up, but there are a couple of youngsters that will have to wait before they can get on the practice field.
Per KPRC2's Aaron Wilson, the Lions placed rookie quarterback, Hendon Hooker, as well as Derrick Deese Jr. and undrafted rookie Zach Morton on the NFL's reserve/NFI list Thursday.
Below is how the active/NFI list works, per NFL.com:
The Non-Football Injury or Illness list (NFI) is similar to the PUP list, but it is used for players who suffered injuries or ailments outside of NFL activities. The Non-Football Injury or Illness list (NFI) is similar to the PUP list, but it is used for players who suffered injuries or ailments outside of NFL activities.
Players can be activated off the NFI list once they're cleared to practice, but like the PUP, they can't be put back on the list after they're removed. They won't count toward the active roster while they're on the list.
Hooker is currently recovering from the torn ACL he suffered against the South Carolina Gamecocks back in November. It's unclear what injuries Deese Jr. and Morton are dealing with, however, and right now, teams don't have to disclose injury information.
In other words: There probably won't be any updates soon. Unless something is leaked out.
Hooker is the main focal point, here. The former Volunteer said back in June that he's ahead of schedule in his rehab, but Dan Campbell has also said the team is going to make sure Hooker is 100% healthy before he gets back on the field.
Either way, all three players will have to play the waiting game while they await their respective returns to the field.
Lions cut veteran kicker Michael Badgley
The Lions made a rather surprising roster move after they traded for Denzel Mims on Wednesday night.
