JJ Watt is perhaps the most beloved Houston Texan of all time. The five-time Pro Bowler is revered in the city of Houston for his contributions on and off the field.

On Monday, those contributions were acknowledged when the former edge defender was inducted into the Texans' Ring of Honor. Watt signed with the Arizona Cardinals before the 2021 season, ending an exceptional decade with the team.

The Texans have now entered a new era which is led by former linebacker and JJ Watt teammate DeMeco Ryans. It's safe to say that Watt feels good about the direction the Texans are headed in.

Speaking with Houston media on Tuesday, Watt made it known that he thinks the world of Ryans.

Watt and Ryans were only teammates for one season, 2011, but clealry the veteran linebacker rubbed off on Watt.

Watt then transitioned into talking about a current Texans' linebacker: Will Anderson Jr.

"I think Will is a phenomenal player," said Watt. "He's a freak athlete. I'm excited to watch him develop and grow."

Texans' fans are surely hoping Anderson can become the player that Watt was. Watt collected 101 sacks in his Texans' career, the most in franchise history.

Anderson was selected with the No. 3 pick in the 2023 NFL Draft out of Alabama, the same school as his new head coach. Anderson collected 34.5 sacks over three seasons in Tuscaloosa, showcasing elite pass rushing and run defense abilities.

Anderson will take over the defensive leader mantle that Ryans and Watt both held at one point. The rookie edge rusher will have big shoes to fill in Houston, but he's up for the task.
