CBS Sports recently made a "bold" prediction for the Detroit Lions ahead of the 2023 season.
And it has nothing to do with how the Lions' 2023 season will play out.
Instead, it has to do with a move the Lions could make this summer.
CBS Sports boldly predicted this week that Detroit will trade for Washington Commanders edge rusher Chase Young at some point before the start of the season.
From CBS Sports: Aaron Rodgers is no longer in Green Bay, opening up the door for someone to take the NFC North crown. To most observers, the Lions are the leaders in the clubhouse to become the next dominant team in the division and they seize the opportunity by continuing to load up on defense and dealing for Commanders pass rusher Chase Young. Washington declined to pick up Young's fifth-year option earlier this offseason, possibly spelling the end of his tenure with the franchise. When healthy, Young is arguably a generational talent and showed during his rookie season that he can be a game-wrecker. That said, injuries have proven to be a major speed bump in his career to this point, which allows the Lions to swoop in and buy low on someone who could help catapult the defense to another level if everything works out. Young would be an ideal pass rusher to place opposite Aidan Hutchinson.
When healthy, Young can be one of the premier pass rushers in the NFL. The former No. 2 overall draft pick proved as a rookie (7.5 sacks in 2020) that he can play at an elite level. But injuries have prevented Young from making much of an impact over the last two seasons.
If the Lions can get Young for "cheap", then pairing him with Aidan Hutchinson could give Detroit one of the most dangerous pass rushing duos in the league.
AtoZ Sports' Mike Payton suggested this week that a third round pick would be fair compensation for Young. If the Lions can get him for a third rounder, they should jump at the chance to make that deal.
Combine a potential Young/Hutchinson pairing with the Lions' improved secondary and you have a recipe for a division title.
