The Kansas City Chiefs have some drama on their hands in the 2023 offseason. This time, very similar to the 2020 offseason, it's their star defensive player Chris Jones, who wants an extension done with the team.

He held out of mandatory minicamp and ended up losing around $98 thousand because of it. He is making a statement that he wants his money, but he is also not risking anything when he is trying to get paid by practicing and possibly getting hurt.

On Thursday, the Chiefs did their ring ceremony at Union Station in downtown Kansas City. It didn't look like Chris Jones was there, but he very well could have been.

General manager Brett Veach was interviewed on the red carpet and had this to say about Chris Jones:

"We are in constant communication," Veach said when asked about Jones. "I'd be shocked if Chris isn't here; I mean, this is his type of party right here. So, but we have great communication, and look, there's a lot of time before camp, so we feel good about where we're going to be with Chris. We'll get to celebrate tonight and have a good time and then a break tomorrow, and I'm sure we'll have great dialogue from now on to start a training camp and look forward to Chris being here and not just for next year but for a long time."

Veach was then asked if there is a timeline for this sort of thing, and as we know, with the Chiefs; it's around the start of training camp.

"No, not really. I mean, we have a long history together, and we have a great relationship with his agent. So, I mean, these things usually get worked out right before, right during the first start of the camp. So we the same, and we'll see how it goes."

The Chiefs will need Jones for the 2023 season and the future. Alos, think about this before you get upset with Jones: This is probably his last chance to get paid a ton of money because of his age. He is only looking out for himself.
