The Indianapolis Colts have some real excitement on the offensive side of the ball for the 2023 NFL season. Most of that stems from first-year head coach Shane Steichen and rookie quarterback Anthony Richardson.

ALl-Pro running back Jonathan Taylor should be better after an injury-riddled 2022 season. The same can be said about Quenton Nelson and the offensive line after a down year last fall.

But perhaps the biggest question mark on the offensive side of the ball is at wide receiver. Who will emerge next to Michael Pittman Jr. for Richardson – or Gardner Minshew – to throw the ball to? That will need to be answered.

Pro Football Focus highlights that big concern with their latest positional rankings. PFF views the Colts' wide receiver corps as one of the worst in the NFL. Aside from Pittman, PFF is not very inspired by the group.

"Michael Pittman Jr. headlines a group that is still evolving right now. Pittman went from a 79.9 receiving grade in 2021 to a 70.3 receiving grade in 2022, but it felt like that was the story of the entire Colts offense," PFF analyst Trevor Sikkema wrote. "Alec Pierce is a good deep threat, and Isaiah McKenzie gives them some speed in the slot. But overall, it’s not one of the most alluring groups in the league."

It's difficult to argue against that premise too much. However, Pierce did show some promise as a rookie and will have the opportunity to build on that next season. McKenzie was a low-cost, low-risk addition that could add explosiveness.

But more than anything, this opens the door for Josh Downs to carve out a role as a rookie. Drafted in the third-round, Downs is a dynamic weapon in the passing game that should emerge as a reliable target for Richardson in the offense.

Elsewhere in the AFC South, the Jacksonville Jaguars land at No. 16 on the list. While the Tennessee Titans and Houston Texans come in at No. 30 and No. 32, respectively. That shows its a real issue all the way around in the division.
