It is no secret that the Chicago Bears' success in 2023 is in the hands of quarterback Justin Fields. In order for the Bears to make a massive leap in the upcoming year, Fields must establish a strong connection with D.J. Moore.
Bears general manager Ryan Poles has made a handful of moves to upgrade Fields's supporting cast. Trading for Moore was Poles' most significant acquisition this offseason, and his production will dictate just how far the Bears offense can go.
Fields and Moore have spent time working out together prior to organized team activities. The pair cannot afford to waste any time getting acclimated with one another, as the Bears won't have much time to waste once the regular season kicks off.
News out of Bears camp is that the duo is already looking like they've played together for years. Bears safety Jaquan Brisker offered his thoughts on what he's seen out of tandem thus far.
“It look like they got that chemistry going very fast, earlier than I expected,” Brisker told reporters. “They look good, though. They look like they best friends. Justin’s definitely throwing him the ball. Two’s getting the ball, no doubt. Justin looks good, though. He’s going through his progressions. He’s looking very smooth, making good decisions out there, and looking like the best quarterback in the NFL. I thought that last year, but this year it’s different. One look different and him and two . . . you gonna see. You will see.”
As a safety, Brisker sees things many others can't. So for him to make these strong statements on the early chemistry between Fields and his top target should be taken seriously.
While it might be a lot of pressure to put on a 24-year-old quarterback, it's up to Fields to make this connection work. Chicago parted ways with plenty of assets, including the top pick in the 2023 NFL Draft to bring Moore to the Windy City.
If Moore can help unlock the potential so many see in Fields, the Bears will be a tough out in 2023. If Chicago gets rolling and the passing game starts off hot, the Bears could take advantage in a weakened NFC North.
