The Kansas City Chiefs have one second-year player progressing as the 2023 season gets closer.

Last year started extremely rough for rookie wide receiver Skyy Moore. Sure, it does for most rookies, and only some come into the league and are a star right away, but most rookies don't go through what Moore did.

No matter where you are drafted, if you are a rookie receiver coming into the Chiefs system, you will see the field as a receiver only sometimes at the start of the season. Andy Reid's offense is too complex. It will even be the same for 2023 rookie Rashee Rice.

So, these guys have to make their name somewhere else starting. It would be on special teams for Moore, as it is for many rookies. However, he would be a returner. Moore struggled mightily. Not having any experience returning punts would come back to haunt him.

Moore had three fumbles last season, all on special teams. He couldn't stop muffing punts, and it even ended up somewhat costing them the game against the Indianapolis Colts. As the year went on, though, we started seeing Moore in the offense more, no pun intended, ad it was great.

This is a guy that when he gets the ball in his hands, he does great things. When it's thrown his way, he catches it. He does exactly what he is supposed to do and will only get better. His 2023 offseason has consisted of him working his tail off.

"Skyy's worked real hard this offseason," Reid told the media on Thursday. "So, and he, he looks like he's on the same page with Patrick. He's doing a nice job, and again, just in these camps, he's been doing a real nice job with it. Let's keep on advancing as we go, and he'll do that because he's wired right to do that."

2023 will be a huge year for Moore because his role will change drastically. The Chiefs are looking for him to be a starter in the upcoming season, as he, Kadarius Toney, and Marquez Valdes-Scantling all look to be the main group of guys in the room catching passes from Mahomes.

In 2023 he will struggle because he will pay more. Some of his mistakes will be magnified because of his role. However, at the end of the day, he will get better. Moore is a guy that will be used in many different ways, whether vertically, over the middle, in the flat, or even in some end-around stuff to trick the defense because Toney is usually that guy.

I'm excited to see what Moore can do in 2023.
