The New Orleans Saints added more firepower on offense this offseason with running backs Jamaal Williams and Kendre Miller and wide receiver Bryan Edwards. However, they already had a young stud on the roster, Chris Olave.

New Orleans didn't exactly get elite quarterback play in 2022 with Jameis Winston and Andy Dalton, but Olave shined as a rookie with 72 receptions for 1,042 yards and four touchdowns. Now, Olave will get to work with a former four-time Pro Bowler, Derek Carr.

A receiver's best friend is a good quarterback play, and one NFL writer sees the combination of Carr and Olave doing some good things in 2023.

"Carr's tendency to look for deep shots plays well with the Saints' targets. Olave led all players with 14.2 air yards per target last season, per Next Gen Stats (min 100 targets). The pairing should be in for a cavalcade of field-stretching connections in 2023. Toss in second-year speedster Rashid Shaheed and Thomas — again, if healthy — and New Orleans' offense could be cooking with gas."-Kevin Patra, NFL.com

Olave has already established himself as one of the better outside receivers in the NFL. With a healthy Michael Thomas back in the mix, it will make things even easier for Olave so an uptick in production in 2023 is highly likely.

Of course, none of that matters without building a bond with Carr, and Olave is doing just that.

“He looks great," said Olave last month, via the Rich Eisen Show. "I want to continue to work with him and continue to build that chemistry. We're off to a good start right now."

The Saints are set to begin their three-day minicamp on Tuesday. However, during OTAs, Olave has been consistently making plays against not just defensive backs but linebackers as well.

Carr certainly likes what he's been seeing from his talented new weapon.

“He loves to work, he keeps his head down, doesn’t say much until it’s time,” Carr said several weeks ago after practice. "He went up there, got the ball, and we’re just building on that. Watching him run, it’s been a treat, him and Rashid (Shaheed) can fly, and not only can they fly, they can run routes and play football, so it’s fun for me to watch."

Olave's second season is set up to be a special one.
