Green Bay Packers defensive tackle Devonte Wyatt was drafted with the expectations that he would be able to make an early impact. Though the first rounder didn’t see significant action in his rookie campaign, Wyatt is poised to make some noise in year two.

Wyatt is in line to be the primary beneficiary after two key Packers defenders departed in the free agency period earlier this offseason. The run-stopper out of Georgia must now prove why he is worth his first round billing.

The Packers aren’t the only ones with high hopes for Wyatt heading into the 2023 season. Pro Football Focus recently named him to their 2023 All-Breakout Team.

From PFF: One of Green Bay’s two first-rounders in 2022, Wyatt didn’t start to see significant playing time until the last three games of the season, which featured his highest snap totals. He was a beast with the Packers’ season on the line against the Detroit Lions in Week 18, putting up a 90.6 defensive grade and a 92.2 pass-rush grade in that game. With the Dean Lowry and Jarran Reed departures, expect a big bump in playing time for Wyatt on the Packers’ defensive line.

Green Bay will be reliant upon its defense as the offensive side of the football enters a transition year with Jordan Love under center. Stopping the run was a major issue for the Packers last season, as the team finished 26th in the league allowing 139.5 yards per game on the ground.

Wyatt has all of the tools the Packers are looking for while the team looks to atone for the sins of last season. If he is able to take the next step in his development, there is no reason why the Packers shouldn’t finish as a top 10 defense in the NFL in the upcoming season.
