A Las Vegas Raiders player on a rookie contract has recently been subject to rumors he does not want to be associated with.
When a team drafts a rookie in the NFL Draft, typically you will see that player play the full contract on the team.
Of course, there are always exceptions via trade, but not often do you see a team flat-out cut their selections. Teams will often try a player in a new role as their contract enters its final years to see if he is worth stashing on the practice squad.
Amik Robertson was selected in the fourth round at pick No. 139 in 2020, but unfortunately for him, he is the one that has recently been subjected to rumors of him not making the team.
In a recent article via The Athletic, Vic Tafur and Tashan Reed gave their Raiders 53-man roster projection and Robertson was one of the players cut:
Robertson and Webb will both have the chance to fight for a roster spot. The 5-foot-8 Robertson was one of the new Raiders brass’ favorite players that they inherited, but his size limitations are tricky and ultimately prove his undoing. –
The players they have making the roster over Robertson are Duke Shelley, Jakorian Bennett, Nate Hobbs, David Long Jr., Brandon Facyson, and Tyler Hall.
In his three year career, Robertson has started just nine games, and in that time he has two interceptions, nine pass deflections, and 45 solo tackles.
By all accounts it seems the last cornerback spot is being fought for by Amik Robertson and Sam Webb.
