After a heartbreaking end to last year's regular season, the Pittsburgh Steelers know that there's no such thing as "it's just one game" in the NFL. Every win and loss can make a huge impact on what a team's fate looks like when the regular season is over.

Every game counts.

That's why the latest news around the league will make things just a little bit harder for the Steelers: San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy is expected to be ready for the start of the 2023 NFL season as he travels to Jacksonville to "throw the next couple weeks with QB coach Will Hewlett and ortho specialist Tom Gormely," per NFL Network's Tom Pelissero.

The Steelers get the 49ers in their Week 1 home opener.

"If his recovery continues at this rate, consider it very likely that is the 49ers’ Week 1 starter," tweeted The Athletic's 49ers insider David Lombardi.

Even though Purdy's experience is significantly limited and there's much we don't know about him as a player, the 49ers will likely be road favorites. As of right now, some sportsbooks have them at -3.

That should be okay with the Steelers, who have opened back-to-back seasons with big upsets over top AFC contenders.

Even still, preparing for the 49ers with their preferred quarterback will be a more challenging task than them having to play with their determined backup. So far, San Francisco has heavily implied Purdy is their guy.

Whoever ends up under center for that Sunday, Mike Tomlin's defense will have a busy weekend. The 49ers boast one of the best collections of talent in the entire league with players like Christian McCaffrey, Brandon Ayiuk, Deebo Samuel, and George Kittle coming into town.
