It's June. Even worse – it's late June.
Which means it's time for the national talking heads to start dishing out outlandish, uninformed takes aimed at NFL players and teams.
Of course, FOX Sports' Colin Cowherd is spearheading an awful take centered around Green Bay Packers quarterback Jordan Love. Cowherd isn't "buying" Love heading into 2023 and he explained why on Tuesday.
"Jordan Love has been with the Packers for four years [and] you cannot find one intense, "wow" moment of practice video. Not one," Cowherd recently said on The Herd with Colin Cowherd. "I was told, in the last 72 hours, by an incredibly-connected Green Bay source – I'm not telling you if it's a current Packer or a former one, I'll protect him. But he said when he was around him [Love] for multiple years, he never saw a "wow" pass or a "wow" moment…"
So, Cowherd immediately starts off his rant with a lie. I'm not talking about his Packers source – that can certainly be true. What I'm referring to is the idea that we "cannot find one" moment of practice video that will make people go, "wow".
As we can see below, there are plenty of instances in which Love has made great plays during the most recent OTAs/minicamp sessions:
This sole video completely exposes Cowherd and his take, but, when you realize that the media magnate's entire point is based off of what Joe Burrow did during OTAs, the lunacy of it all comes straight to the surface.
"I went and looked this morning [at] Joe Burrow's first camp in Cincinnati," continued Cowherd. "[The] USA Today headline [was], 'Joe Burrow Rips Through the Bengals' First-Team Defense'. That was the first OTA."
To quote the legend that is Allen Iverson: Really? We're talking about practice?
For starters, every NFL team has its own set of rules that dictate when the media is allowed to take practice videos. So, opportunities are already slim when it comes to catching the "wow" moment that Cowherd is so desperately seeking.
Secondly, again, this is OTAs we're talking about, here. Shorts and T-shirts. No pads. No live contact. They're glorified walkthroughs, essentially. No one in their right mind should make any concrete judgements in OTAs about any player. It's football malpractice and people who come to those types of conclusions are only looking for attention.
Love has also taken a backseat to Aaron Rodgers during mandatory minicamps and training camps. In all, Love has never really had the chance to shine.
No one is debating Cowherd's source, but even then, that's a subjective opinion from a player. I'm sure Cowherd could find another player who has something different to say, but that, of course, won't grab the headlines like lying and bad takes do.
Obviously, only time will tell how things pan out. But even if Cowherd ends up correct, this take will still look just as bad due to its genesis.
Jordan Love accepting the change that comes with being Packers QB
Life is a whole lot different when you’re the face of one of the NFL’s most prestigious franchises like the Packers.
