Josh Allen is a unicorn.
It didn't take long into his rookie season for the organization and the Bills Mafia to realize they had something special in Allen. During a road game against the Vikings, Allen leaped over All-Pro linebacker Anthony Barr and the rest is history.
Allen's career highlight reel, so far, has been filled with sheer athleticism and a cannon of an arm. You can see him throw 90+ yard touchdowns to Gabe Davis or hurdle multiple defenders before getting a first down.
Sean McDermott, during an interview with The 33rd Team, highlighted what makes Allen so unique by discussing his work ethic and what makes the franchise quarterback tick.
"He's gotten better every year in terms of his awareness of how the league tries to defend them." McDermott continued, "I think the interesting thing with Josh is the work that he's put in to improve. I think that's been key to his development as a quarterback."
To his point, Allen is known for his rigorous offseason workouts and regiment with former quarterback turned quarterback whisperer Jordan Palmer. Allen had discussed before how each offseason was focused on a different aspect of his game.
When Allen arrived in the league, the biggest knock against him was the completion percentage. NFL pundits and "experts" agreed that it wasn't something he'd be able to improve on in the NFL, and history tends to agree with that sentiment.
Allen, once again, proved he was a unicorn by drastically improving in that one area. McDermott even touched on that during his interview, shutting down the naysayers with a little perspective on the hot-button topic.
"…When it comes to the completion percentage. I mean there's, there's receivers on the other hand was tight ends. There's backs. You know, I just think that he has put in the time to get himself to where he is, and I think that'll continue to serve him."
Allen is unique in how hard he works at his craft, he's methodical and that's something McDermott appreciates and respects. The franchise quarterback isn't only unique in that he stiff-arms cornerbacks and hurdles linebackers, he's unique in his approach to his craft and his ferocity to get better each and every day.
Bills Mafia has a good one, and they are enjoying every second of it.
