The Indianapolis Colts learned that they will be without one of their starters for the full 2023 NFL season earlier this week. It was reported by ESPN that cornerback Isaiah Rodgers is expected to miss all of next season due to suspension.

Rodgers was part of a group of players around the league that allegedly broke the gambling policy. As a result, he looks set to be hit with a one-season suspension, although there is speculation that he could face a longer sentence.

Therefore, the Colts have decided to make a move that they had to make as the process plays out. Rather than being held in a limbo, Indianapolis has decided to part ways with the 25-year old defender.

NFL insider Tom Pelissero reported on Thursday that the Colts have released Rodgers and linebacker Rashod Berry, who was also reportedly involved in violating the gambling policy.

Colts general manager Chris Ballard addressed the situation and the decision to move on from the two defenders. He acknowledged the reason for the releases head-on rather than avoiding the elephant in the room.

"We have made the following roster moves as a consequence of the determination that these players violated the league's gambling policy," Ballard said. "The integrity of the game is of the utmost importance."

Ballard emphasized that the franchise will do what it can to make sure it doesn't happen again. That will include educating players and staff about important NFL policies, especially regarding gambling.

"As an organization we will continue to educate our players, coaches, and staff on the policies in place and the significant consequences that may occur with violations," Ballard said.

With this news, Isaiah Rodgers is the seventh NFL player to be – or expected to be – suspended or at least one year, with Berry also a part of that group. The Indianapolis Colts will move forward without the two on the roster.
