NFL training camp is quickly approaching and teams are still bidding to acquire free agent wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins.

Adding a player of Hopkins' caliber just weeks before camp can completely change the trajectory of a season for whoever lands him. Not only are you getting an elite receiving threat for your offense, you are also getting a decade of expertise and leadership.

ESPN's Jeremy Fowler told SportsCenter on Wednesday that the favorites to acquire Hopkins' services are still the Tennessee Titans and New England Patriots. Fowler said that both teams have something going for them and which team wins out will be determined by who steps up financially.

"Those two are still heavily in the mix, you could call them the favorites still, but they've kept in contact," said Fowler. "The Titans, I'm told, are pretty well-positioned here. They're certainly motivated to do this from coach Mike Vrabel on down. They are very intrigued by the possibility of Hopkins in their offense with Ryan Tannehill. Hopkins has interest there too."

Fowler added that Hopkins had a "great visit with New England a couple weeks ago" and has a lot of respect for Patriots head coach Bill Belichick.

"Like usual, a lot's going to depend on what comes with the contract front, so we'll see who steps up there," said Fowler. "This is something where he can wait closer to training camp, but I was also told that something could get done in the next week or two, so it just really depends on who steps up."

So here we are, approaching the finish line of the DeAndre Hopkins sweepstakes with the Titans still right in the mix. A deal could happen within the next week or two and there is no doubt that Tennessee has a legitimate shot of signing Hopkins. All they need to do is step up financially.

With Odell Beckham Jr. signing a one-year, $15 million contract with the Baltimore Ravens earlier this offseason, it's likely Hopkins (who is better than Beckham) is looking for a contract of equal or more value. As things currently stand, the Titans do not have the salary cap space to make Hopkins an offer in that range. Tennessee has $8.34 million in available cap space, while New England has $14.95 million.

Unless the Titans are willing to give Hopkins a multi-year deal with guaranteed money in 2024, it looks like Tennessee is going to need to create some cap space to win Hopkins over.

It's time for the Titans to step up to the plate and prove that they are serious about winning in 2023. The AFC South is up for grabs and this roster is in desperate need of offensive weapons to help Ryan Tannehill. Treylon Burks cannot do it all by himself.

From everything we have heard, the Titans are serious about adding Hopkins and they are making legitimate efforts to show him why Music City is the best destination for him this fall. But those efforts will need financial backing. Make him an offer he can't refuse and DeAndre Hopkins will be a Tennessee Titan when training camp opens later this month. Time to see if the Titans are putting money where their mouth is.
