Welcome to the dead zone Detroit Lions fans. OTA's and Mandatory mini camp are over and for the next few weeks, things are going to be quiet in Lions land as we prepare for the start of training camp.
As we make our way towards camp, we're going to do a deep dive into the Lions entire roster. We'll be doing it section by section and player by player and go over the expectations for each player going into camp.
So far we've already covered interior defensive linemen, edge rushers linebackers, cornerbacks, safeties, offensive line, tight ends, receivers and running backs. Today we'll be finishing up this series with a look at the quarterbacks.
Jared Goff

Goff is coming off the best year of his career with the Lions and if he can have another year like it, there’s a solid chance that the Lions offer him a contract extension after the season and solidify him as their guy for a long time.
His camp expectation is that he comes out and gets things going on the chemistry end with the new guys in town. Goff also needs to make sure that he continues along with his league best ball security that he's been rolling with since Week 10 of the 2021 season. Lastly, keep that confidence high. If Goff can do all these things, he's going to really hit the ground running in 2023 and he will also plant some serious roots.
Nate Sudfeld

I’m still a bit surprised that Nate Sudfeld is still in Detroit. Brad Holmes talked about the need for a backup quarterback early in the offseason after the Lions cut both Tim Boyle and David Blough at camp and grabbed Sudfeld right before the season started. Then the Lions struck out in free agency and wound up bringing Sudfeld back.
His camp expectation is that he shows us what he can do because nobody really seems to know. Sudfeld didn't play any preseason games last year and nobody got to see him in camp either. The Eagles once made sure that they held onto Sudfeld. There has to be a reason for that. Let's see what he can do.
Hendon Hooker

I still don’t really get the idea behind this pick. Hooker was very good at Tennessee, but anytime that gets brought up, the quarterback friendly scheme they have there does too. It just seems that the Lions could have grabbed a backup in a place that wasn’t the third round of the draft. But they did and here we are now.
The camp expectation for Hooker is get healthy. He's still coming off a torn ACL he suffered last season. If Hooker winds up being able to participate in camp, which is somewhat possible, but seems unlikely, let's see him get back into the swing of things.
Adrian Martinez

It’s pretty unlikely that Martinez makes the 53 man roster, but if he can do better than he did at OTA’s and mini camp, he should have a shot to make the Lions practice squad. The problem is that he looked pretty rough. So he he as an uphill battle if he hopes to make it.
