The Las Vegas Raiders have one of the best players in the league at his position, giving them even more reason to get the deal done as soon as possible.
The Raiders have still not given Josh Jacobs a contract extension, and we all know he deserves one. Last season he was arguably the best running back in the league in a contract year.
Now, he is dealing with what every running back goes through when they shouldn't – the fact that their shelf life is too short, and no one wants to pay them. He and New York Giants running back Saquon Barkley are the latest guys dealing with that issue.
But landing high on a list of top running backs in the league may only help Jacobs get his deal early. It doesn't hurt anything, that's for sure. One network had Jacobs as the fifth-best running back in the league.
No running back made himself more money in 2022 than Josh Jacobs. The Raiders had already declined Jacbos' fifth-year option for 2023, so they had to deploy the franchise tag to retain him after he posted the best season of his career. Jacobs led the league with 1,653 rushing yards, 100+ yards ahead of second-place Henry. He generated more first downs (93) than any other rusher, and his 58% success rate was fourth among running backs. Jacobs did all this while playing behind an offensive line that was below average. Yet, his excellent vision allows him to find a crease when the blocking isn't perfect. He's perfectly capable of grinding out yardage as a sustaining runner, but when Jacobs sees a hole, he's not afraid to hit it with speed. –Pro Football Network
As we said, this could help him get his deal earlier because the Raiders could realize just how good Jacobs is. He is a guy that has the potential to get better too. I understand the hesitation when it comes to paying him because you may not get your full money's worth by the end of the deal, but Jacobs deserves something.
Before this last year, one of his biggest flaws was that he didn't catch the ball out of the backfield much; he put up career highs in that aspect, along with rushing stats, too, obviously. It was a crazy year for Jacobs; when the rest of the team was struggling, he was the only guy they could count on consistently.
Josh Jacobs gives an interesting bit of information that could help him return to the Raiders
The Las Vegas Raiders have to make some tough decisions soon. They have a franchise running back who could be heading elsewhere soon. But, based on who the Raiders pick up at quarterback, could have a huge advantage on where Jacobs goes. The Raiders are parting ways with Derek Carr, so the search for a […]
