Jaguars' Pro Bowler sends NFL a warning about his new teammate
New Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver, Calvin Ridley has been present for the team's OTAs and mandatory minicamp– and is already turning heads. New Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver, Calvin Ridley has been present for the team's OTAs and mandatory minicamp– and is already turning heads.
"Just the way he moves, his route-running, he can catch anything you throw to him… He's a mismatch nightmare," said teammate and 2023 Pro Bowler Jamal Agnew. "In my opinion, I don't think anybody can guard him in the league."
Calvin Ridley, following a 2022 season-long suspension for gambling in the previous year, hasn't suited up for a game since October 24 of 2021. In the last full season Ridley played (2020) he logged 90 receptions for 1,374 yards, and nine touchdowns – Ridley was averaging one touchdown for every 10 receptions. Ridley also tallied 65 first downs for the Falcons in 2020. He's a chain mover and will fit in perfectly in a Jaguars offense that finished ninth in the league in first downs (352) last year.
The Jags traded a 2023 fifth-round pick and a 2024 conditional pick for Calvin Ridley on November 1 of last year. If the Jaguars choose to extend Ridley, that conditional pick turns into a second rounder for the Falcons.
And it sounds like Jaguars head coach Doug Pederson has no doubt the team will extend Ridley.
"He’s excited to be here, he wanted to be here, he’s not going anywhere," Pederson stated.
Ridley as well as the rest of his team will report to training camp on Tuesday, July 25. Not long after that, Ridley will suit up on Sundays for the first time in just under two years. Will the 28-year-old still be a "mismatch nightmare" in his new offense?
