Chase Dollander heard his name called on night one of the 2023 MLB Draft. It was a special night for the former Tennessee Vols righty that dominated in much of his time dawning the orange and white. He was electric.
Dollander joins Todd Helton as the only two Vols players to be selected by the Rockies in the top ten of the draft.
If he goes on to find success similar to Helton, the Rockies will have a hall-of-fame level pitcher on their hands. Let's not get ahead of ourselves there, though. Dollander has the potential to be a top-end starter at the pro level, but some mechanic blips this past season rose some red flags and led to a decrease in statistical output.
Clearly, Colorado believes that their developmental system can work with the former Tennessee starter to iron those out. It will be entertaining to watch his growth over the next handful of seasons as he makes his way to the big leagues. Vols and Rockies fans remember Todd Helton quite fondly.
They hope they'll be able to do the same regarding Dollander.
