The Jets have been selected to serve as the team featured on HBO's Hard Knocks, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports. They will return to training camp on July 18.
However, it's clear the Jets are not excited about this news.
“I know there are several teams that would love for ‘Hard Knocks’ to be in their building. We’re just not one of them,” Jets coach Robert Saleh said in June.
Special teams captain Justin Hardee Sr. echoed his coaches sentiments.
The NFL selects a team based on ones that don't meet on of their three guidelines.
The guidelines exclude teams with a first-year head coach, those that have earned a playoff berth in the past two seasons, and teams that have appeared on Hard Knocks within the last 10 years.
Saleh is entering his third season as head coach of the Jets, and New York has not earned a spot in the playoffs since 2010, which is also the last time they were featured on Hard Knocks.
This made then the perfect candidate for the show.
That along with having MVP quarterback Aaron Rodgers helping lead the team will make for some quality content.
Fans will just have to wait and see what happens over the course of the season as the spotlight shines on the Jets.
