The New York Jets are bringing back a key piece of their defense.
The Jets and defensive tackle Quinnen Williams have agreed to a four-year, $96 million deal, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports.
This is the second-largest contract in league history for a defensive tackle and Quinnen Williams is getting $66 million in guarantees, Ian Rapoport added. Similarly, this is the largest guarantee in franchise history.
Quinnen Williams was drafted by the Jets with the third overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft, and it's clear that New York doesn't want to lose their star defender. He becomes the first Jets' player since Muhammad Wilkerson to sign a second contract with the team, with Wilkerson having been drafted in 2011.
During his four seasons, he has recorded 27.5 sacks, four forced fumbles, and 191 total tackles across 58 games. He has his first All-Pro season in 2022.
Quinnen Williams joins his brother, Quincy Williams, who signed a 3-year, $18 million contract earlier this offseason, with the duo getting to play together for a few more years.
There was some uncertainty surrounding the Jets bringing back Quinnen Williams after the defensive tackle removed the team from his Twitter bio earlier this year, and instead wrote "Defensive Tackle for _______."
However, he added it back last month, making it clear that the Jets intention was to bring Quinnen Williams back. Even coach Robert Saleh said at the beginning of June that "it's going to get done. He'll be here for camp, he'll be ready to roll and once he is, I'm sure he'll be the same guy he was a year ago."
The defensive tackle got the contract he was looking for, so now it's time for him to show why he was worthy of that reward.
