It's ranking season! CBS' Pete Prisco recently ranked his top 100 players in the league and two Detroit Lions made the list.
Those two Lions shouldn't surprise anyone. Receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown had great 2022 season and Penei Sewell proved to be one of the best right tackles in the league. Both these players made the Pro Bowl and probably will again next year. Prisco also included Aidan Hutchinson in his honorable mentions after a great rookie year.
Two Lions is fine at the end of the day. Ultimately this isn't the big list that everyone talks about. The NFL will release their list soon. That one is voted on by players. Still, there should have been a couple other guys on the list. Today we're going to talk about who maybe got snubbed off this list. Let's jump right into it.
Jared Goff
Goff has a good case to make the list for a few different reasons. The first one is super easy. Goff was near the top of the league in every major statistical category you'd like your quarterback to be hanging around the top in. He was sixth in passing yards, tied for fifth in passing touchdowns, seventh in passer rating and 24th in interceptions. That's really good.
Still, somehow Lamar Jackson, who only played 12 games last season and didn't look his best in them, made the list. Lamar is probably the better quarterback at the end of the day, but he wasn't the better quarterback in 2022. I'm not saying that Goff should be at the top of this list. He could have been number 100 and that would have been fine. He deserved to be on this list.
Jamaal Williams
Ok, dry tour tears. I know its sad that he's gone. Williams should have been on this list. It's not easy to rush for over 1,000 yards and also lead the entire league in rushing touchdowns. Williams did that and it should have garnered him a spot on the list. It should have least garnered him a spot on the honorable mention list.
Ultimately Williams absence is understandable in the sense that the league just doesn't value the running back position the way they used to and sports media doesn't either.
Frank Ragnow
I'm including Ragnow into my own personal honorable mention. Ragnow continues to be one of the best centers in the NFL and last year he did it on one foot. Ragnow played hurt the entire season and still managed to churn out a Pro Bowl season. I realize that centers don't typically make lists like this and the that do are genuinely better than Ragnow. I'd be remiss if I didn't include him though. Especially after all the quality work he put in despite being hurt.
ESPN Analysts predict the Lions will have a top 10 offense again in 2023
Here’s why they may be right
