The Indianapolis Colts made the decision to hitch its wagon to former Florida quarterback Anthony Richardson in the 2023 NFL Draft. He is who general manager Chris Ballard and head coach Shane Steichen are banking on.

Richardson, a dynamic quarterback with legitimate dual threat ability, only started one season on the collegiate level. Additionally, his team had a losing record. Therefore, there are some surface level concerns to be had.

But when you look deeper, it is easy to see why Richardson has the Colts sold. He is an elite athlete with incredible verified testing numbers. The skill talent pops on tape. And it has not taken very long for his teammates to see that.

The 6-foot-4 and 244-pound quarterback scored a perfect 10 in the RAS, based on his NFL Scouting Combine data. He jumped 40.5 inches and ran 4.43 seconds in the 40-yard dash.

All of that makes Richardson as an elite of an athlete as seemingly possible. Which looks good on paper, of course. But Colts linebacker Zaire Franklin has already noticed the difference on the field, too.

"Even in the walkthrough against him, when 5's in there, you've just got to be aware," Franklin said of Richardson in minicamp. "It's just a whole other element to an offense that you don't necessarily have to think about with more of a traditional QB."

Fortunately, head coach Shane Steichen has the ideal offensive scheme to really unleash Richardson. Jalen Hurts thrived in Steichen's RPO-heavy offense during the past two seasons when Steichen served as the Philadelphia Eagles' offensive coordinator.

Therefore, it only makes sense that Richardson could theoretically take the offense to a high level due to his dynamic skill set. Just in minicamp, it was obvious to his teammates what Richardson can bring to the table.
