One particular media outlet thinks the ceiling for the Jags' offense is even higher.
CBSSports.com listed their top triplets in the NFL – that is, QB, RB, and either a WR or TE – and the Jacksonville Jaguars came in seventh on their list. The list was divided into 32-21, 20-7, and 6-1, making the Jaguars the top team of the "middle of the pack". And this wasn't just a single writer's opinion. This was the consensus of a team of 16 writers, so the results have a much stronger foundation than a typical article from a single writer.
Interestingly the writers listed Calvin Ridley as the WR option ahead of Christian Kirk, who had a career year last season in Jacksonville. The remainder of the trio is obviously Lawrence and Travis Etienne, Jr.
I think it will be quite a long time before we find a Lawrence-led group outside the top 10 ever again. His rise last season was a bit overshadowed, but he is elite at avoiding negative plays and over the second half of the season began tapping into his outside-of-structure playmaking and high-level ability to read each layer of the defense. With a true No. 1 wideout now on board in Ridley, he should be able to ascend another level this season. – CBSSports.com
There's some pretty lofty company behind the Jaguars on the list. Lamar Jackson and Aaron Rodgers fall further down the list. The explosive Tua-Tagovailoa-to-Tyreek-Hill connection also ranks behind the Jags' trio. Brock Purdy, Christian McCaffrey, and Deebo Samuel? Kirk Cousins and Justin Jefferson? All looking up at the Jags in this ranking.
That's a lot of very good cores of strong offenses that this team of NFL experts deems to be inferior to the one that will be suiting up for Jacksonville this fall.
Ridley has been an All-Pro and will be a very, very difficult task to cover one on one, given his extremely sound route-running skills and speed. Add in Christian Kirk's quickness and elusiveness from the slot, Etienne's speed and sure hands, Evan Engram's size and presence in the middle of the field and red zone, and Lawrence's continued ascension as he gets more comfortable with the NFL entering year 3, and you've got the makings of an offense ready to explode in the team's second year in Press Taylor's offense. If the Jaguars can answer some questions on their offensive line, particularly with two new starting tackles, then they've got the makings of what could be one of the most explosive offenses in the NFL.
It's nice to see that someone else outside of north Florida recognizes the offensive breakout that could be materializing in the Bold City.
Trevor Lawrence reveals simple but true reason why Jaguars will level up
The Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback knows the team’s improvement will go well beyond the addition of a few talented players to the team this offseason.
